My End Of Year Review 2009

Well it’s now into a new year so time for me to look back to last year and see what i achieved. Starting off with my GPS Speeds recorded i am happy that i continued to improve my results and finished the year with the following recorded speeds:-

5 x 10 Second Average - 34.21 knots

100m - 35.43 knots

250m - 34.99 Knots

500m - 33.68 Knots

Max 10 Second - 35.03

Max 2 Second - 35.89 Knots

Max GPS Display – 35.84 Knots

For the coming year my goal is to keep upping my performance and increase my GPS Personal Best Speeds and hopefully break the elusive 40 knot barrier.

In competitions i entered i am happy that i achieved my goal of finishing in the top 5 in the Irish Speedsailing Championships where i finished in 4th place (3rd Master). I also competed in the Speed World Cup European Championships where i finished in 19th place. The Europeans could have gone better for me but that’s in the past now and i will concentrate on doing better in Speed World Cup events i will enter this year. I will learn from my mistakes in that event and make sure that i don’t repeat them in further events.

For the coming year i plan to hopefully better my rankings nationally and internationally and try to finish in the top 3 in Ireland and in the top 50 in the Speed World Cup Rankings

On www.GPS-Speedsurfing.com i also bettered my position against all the other sailors in the world using the site finishing in the top third of the rankings. My overall results were:-

5 x 10 Second Average – 338th (out of 1211 sailors)

100m – 360th (out of 1190 sailors)

250m – 316th (out of 1184 sailors)

500m – 267th (out of 1183 sailors)

Max 10 Second – 356th (out of 1211 sailors)

Max 2 Second – 383rd (out of 1214 sailors)

Max GPS Display – 364th (out of 1011 sailors)

The goal for the coming year now is to finish in the top 150 in all these rankings

I also finished 7th in Ireland in all the overall rankings (5 x 10 Second Average, 100m, 250m, 500m, Max 10 Second, Max 2 Second and Max Display)on www.GPS-Speedsurfing.com. For the coming year my goal is to finish in the top 5 in these rankings.

A new one this year on www.GPS-Speedsurfing.com was a brand ranking for my sponsor KA Sails so i have nothing from last year to compare. My Results in the KA Sail brand ranking were:-

5 x 10 Second Average – 23rd (out of 67 sailors)

100m – 25th (out of 64 sailors)

250m – 22nd (out of 65 sailors)

500m – 21st (out of 65 sailors)

Max 10 Second – 26th (out of 65 sailors)

Max 2 Second – 27th (out of 66 sailors)

Max GPS Display – 28th (out of 63 sailors)

This is going to be a good ranking to take part in as i can see how i am doing compared to the other KA Team riders and for the coming year my goal is to improve my place in these rankings

Finally a new ranking was introduced on www.GPS-Speedsurfing earlier in the year called the evaluated ranking. This ranking takes your best result from each month and gives you a score for where you placed and at the end of the year all 12 months are added together and you get your final result. This is a great fun ranking to take part in because it rewards you if you are logging sessions every month. My Results in the Evaluated Ranking were:-

5 x 10 Second Average – 355th (out of 1211 sailors)

100m – 283rd (out of 1190 sailors)

250m – 275th (out of 1184 sailors)

500m – 278th (out of 1183 sailors)

Max 10 Second – 288th (out of 1211 sailors)

Max 2 Second – 297th (out of 1214 sailors)

Max GPS Display – 229th (out of 1011 sailors)

And my Evaluated Ranking results against the other sailors in Ireland were:-

5 x 10 Second Average – 5th

100m – 4th

250m – 4th

500m – 5th

Max 10 Second – 4th

Max 2 Second – 4th

Max GPS Display – 4th

For the coming year my goal is to improve my World Evaluated Ranking and try to finish in the top 100 and also try to finish in the top 3 in the Irish Evaluated Ranking result

I am hoping now that 2010 will be relatively injury free for me and i achieve my goals, but more importantly to break to 40 knot barrier. Many thanks to all my sponsors for supporting me in 2009 and your continued support for 2010.

Keep checking back here on my blog and i will keep you all updated as to my results and achievements as the year progresses

Aloha

  2. I have been using a Lorch Division S 83 as i was sponsored by Lorch.

As i became a team rider for a shop in Ireland called wind and wave i was able to get a deal on some Starboards so i have a I Sonic 86 as my light wind speed board and got the I Sonic W49 Speed Special and I Sonic W44 Speed Special to try and break 40 knots with.

I will also be using the I Sonic 144 and 111 for slalom
